Anyone can use the Digi-Flex® for hand training, especially musicians. Playing an instrument requires great strength in the fingers, which this hand exerciser can help maintain and develop. Using the CanDo® Digi-Flex® can develop strength, flexibility, and coordination. This device has a base that is shaped to fit your grip and four finger buttons of equal resistance to press down on. It can be compressed with four fingers all at one, or can also be used to exercise each finger independently.
Fingers are controlled by muscles in the forearm. When a person exercises with the Digi-Flex® by fully compressing the device and releasing it, the forearm flexors and forearm extensors are strengthened, thereby strengthening the hand and fingers. This exercise also works to increase endurance for entire arm and fingers, which musicians need when playing long sets of songs.
Additionally, with the Digi-Flex® each finger can be exercised independently. This allows for isolated movement of the fingers, which mimics the actions that violin, guitar, and other string instrument players would take when playing their instruments.
The Digi-Flex® is especially useful to musicians in developing muscle memory. Musicians strive to have muscle memory for more efficient practice and ease of play. However, gaining this takes many hours of practice. Instruments cannot be brought around everywhere, but the Digi-Flex® can. Its small, lightweight size is perfect to take on-the-go. Musicians can bring the device with them on public transportation, to a friend’s house, to school, and more. This results in added practice time as the individual can work with the finger buttons to practice muscle memory.
Trumpet players are excellent candidates for the Digi-Flex®, as the four finger buttons closely resemble the three valves on a trumpet. Just as baseball players practice hitting pitches with additional weights around their bat so that their bat becomes easier to swing hard and fast, trumpet players can improve finger speed and mobility by using higher resistance Digi-Flex® devices. Although the valves on a trumpet do not have much resistance when pushing down on them, practicing with a Digi-Flex® can help develop the muscle memory and speed needed to play more complex pieces of music.
Beginner instrument players can benefit from using the CanDo® Digi-Flex®. Beginners can start with using lower resistance levels so they can get accommodated with the motions needed to play an instrument. Eventually they can move up to a higher resistance, thus developing the muscle memory and strength needed to play their instrument better.
While the Digi-Flex® is most often used for hand rehabilitation, musicians can benefit from the product too. Finger strength and agility can be built through the use of this hand exerciser, producing positive results for musicians. Like with any exercise, it is very important to practice with the Digi-Flex® in moderation. Over practicing and practicing for long periods of time can be detrimental. Consult your hand therapist or physician before the using the CanDo® Digi-Flex®.
