Encouraging Hospital Inpatients to Exercise

inpatients exerciseRest is often prescribed for those who are admitted into a hospital for illness. After all, the body needs to rest in order to heal. However, lying in a bed all day, day-after-day can limit a person’s mobility, particularly the elderly.

An article by Ben Southerly of the Columbus Dispatch explored hospital care plans developed to ensure that patients walk and otherwise preserve their mobility. Physical therapists, nurses, and assistants are often expected to help patients move, whether it’s walking or simply moving from their bed to their chair for dinner.
