10-1745_in_use_single_leg_balanceThink for a second how much you move every day. Did you think about it? It’s a lot!

As I type this blog post, my hands are moving over the keyboard. My head is moving back and forth between my screens, and I’m slightly moving around in my chair.

Your ability to move efficiently requires control of your body’s postural alignment (balance). Without it, everyday tasks like lifting a bag of food, climbing the stairs to your apartment, or standing up after sitting down would be nearly impossible. For endurance athletes (runners, cyclists, and swimmers) good balance is crucial. Just imagine a cyclist with poor balance – ouch!

The CanDo® Economy Balance Board is the perfect tool to help you improve your balance. It helps you strengthen and condition your lower body while improving ankle range-of-motion, balance, body awareness, and develop joint mobility and reaction skills. Its lightweight portable design is great to use at home or even at the office with a standing desk.

Below we’ve compiled several exercises to help you improve your balance using the CanDo® Economy Balance Board. If you think your balance is great, doesn’t hurt to maintain and train it.

Forward/Backward Rock

  • Position feet on either side of center. Put weight on toes and lean forward. Hold for 2 seconds.
  • Put weight on heels and lean backward. Hold for 2 seconds.
  • Repeat for desired repetitions.

Whole Body Balance

  • Position feet on either side of center. Hold a CanDo® WaTE™ ball. Try to lower it and raise it again while maintaining balance on the board.
  • Try holding WaTE™ ball out-stretched in front of you and swing to either side maintaining balance.
  • Repeat for desired repetitions.

Clockwise / Counter-clockwise Twist

  • Position feet on either side of center. Put weight on toes, lean forward and twist. Shift weight to side and twist.
  • Put weight on heels, lean backward and twist in opposite direction. Shift weight to opposite side and twist.
  • Repeat for desired repetitions.

One Foot Balance

  • Place foot on center of board and time how long you can balance on one foot.
  • Repeat with other foot, trying to increase balance times with each try.

Push-up Exercise for Upper Body

  • Kneel on the floor and position economy wobble board in front of you.
  • Place hands on board, shoulder width apart, back straight and do a modified push-up while twisting the board left or right.
  • Repeat twisting in opposite direction.
