Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by the median nerve becoming irritated or compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel in your wrist. Symptoms of the syndrome include numbness, pain, tingling, and weakness in the hand, wrist, even as far up the arm as the elbow.

Carpal Tunnel is usually associated with people working at a desk, but a recent study found the condition has some sort of genetic origin. Those with a family history of the syndrome who are subjected to repetitive hand or wrist work are more far more likely to develop the condition than those who work at a desk but don’t have a family history of the syndrome.
