July 4th, 2020 Health and Safety Tips

Planning on celebrating July 4th this holiday weekend? With everything going on in the world currently, you might be celebrating a little bit differently this year compared to other years. Below are some safety tips on how you can take extra precautions this July 4th weekend.

Continue to Social Distance Yourself

With July 4th being a big holiday, everyone will have the time off to enjoy the sun and each other. But it is important to remember that COVID-19 does not take time off. There might be more people out than usual this weekend, so be sure to continue to social distance yourself from others outside your family. If you are going to the beach, make sure you and your stuff are 6 feet away from other people. You could contract the virus anywhere, including the beach so continue to wear a mask out in public and keep away from others.

Stay Protected from the Sun

If you are staying vigilant from the virus with social distancing it is also important to not forget about the sun. A mask can protect your face from the sun but not the rest of your body. So be sure to apply sunscreen on parts of your skin that are exposed to the sun and seek some shade if you have been out in the sun for too long. Sunscreen can only protect you for so long, so be sure to reapply it and maybe you will get a nice mask tan line instead of a burn.

Keep Hydrated

Lastly, it is good to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water when possible. With the heat and possibly humid weather this holiday weekend your body will need to keep hydrated. Though alcoholic beverages may feel refreshing, they will not keep you hydrated. Beer and other alcohols will make you dehydrated on top of the warm weather that is already making you parched. To avoid dehydration, be sure to drink plenty of ice-cold water and eat fruits with water in it, such as watermelons.

July 4th is a great for spending time with family and friends and enjoying the summer. Just because you must be a little extra cautious this time around does not mean you cannot have fun. Follow these safety tips and you will have a great rest of the summer.
