National Chiropractic Health Month 2020

Did you know that the month of October is National Chiropractic Health Month? Recognized by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), National Chiropractic Health Month is a month which celebrates chiropractic health and promotes ways it can be improved. This year, in wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the ACA’s focus is on helping people adapt to the new normal and maintain musculoskeletal health and function.

The musculoskeletal system, comprised of muscles, bones, and joints, plays a very important role in helping every person get stronger and stay stronger. This system makes it possible for people to stand and move. Through normal aging, the musculoskeletal system will become more fragile, prone to more injuries and can even become a source of debilitating pain. Daily life tasks can be made impossible if the musculoskeletal system is impaired. Moving your body more can combat your musculoskeletal system from rapid aging.

With social distancing and working from home being the norm nowadays, many people are changing to a new lifestyle because of the pandemic. After months of sheltering in place, and probably many more months to come, a lot of people are moving less. This results in more pain because our musculoskeletal system is not active. To encourage the public to adjust to the challenges of staying fit and pain free, the ACA wants people to become more mindful of movement and posture. Thus, starting the “Active and Adaptive” campaign. One action you can take this month and many months to come is make sure you stay physically active. The best physical activity you can do is to go for a walk. Even if you just go for a 15-minute walk, you can help reduce certain risks and health problems related to the musculoskeletal system.

With many people still staying home today, going for a walk and staying active is a great way to help improve your musculoskeletal system and avoid injury. When it comes to your health, get active and adaptive. For more information on your MSK health speak with your chiropractor.
