Sleep is something we cannot avoid. Even insomniacs need to get some sleep eventually. National Sleep Awareness Week Sleep is like someone recharging your batteries after a long day of being. The week of March 10th to March 16th is National Sleep Awareness Week. This week-long event promotes the “Begin with Sleep” campaign, which provides valuable information about the benefits of optimal sleep and how sleep affects health, well-being, and safety.

This year’s theme “Begin with Sleep” highlights the importance of good sleep health for individuals to best achieve their personal, family, and professional goals. It’s suggested the average adult should sleep around 6 to 8 hours a day to feel rested and ready for the next day. It is good to keep that goal and not go below it or else you will end up being a little more sluggish the next day. Not getting a good night’s sleep can lead to poor work and daily activity performance and it can lead to a decrease in one’s general health.

To help manage one’s sleeping schedule, the National Sleep Foundation’s Bedtime Calculator can help. This tool lets you enter in how many hours of sleep you want to get, and based off that number it tells you what time you should go to bed or plan to wake up. This amount of time people need to devote to sleep is a clear indicator of how important proper sleep is to general health.
