Stretch to Stay Healthy All Summer

Posted on in Industry News, News

It is officially summer!

Warmer temperatures and more sunshine often motivates people to become more active. Take note that a sudden increase in activity can cause injury if people aren’t careful. One way to prevent an injury is by having a proper warmup routine before exercising and a cooldown routine after exercising. Both of which should incorporate different types of stretches.

Prior to exercising or being active, a person should perform dynamic stretching in one’s warmup routine. This will loosen muscles and tendons, which increases flexibility and range of motion. It will also promote blood flow and circulation to the muscles. Some dynamic stretches can include high kicks, t-push-ups, and jump squats, all of which can help muscles work more efficiently. By simply adding stretches to a warmup one can maximize his or her fitness performance and reduce risk of injury.

After activity or exercise, one should focus on static stretching. Static stretching involves stretching a specific area, like the hamstring, lower back, or glutes, and holding the stretch for 15 to 20 seconds. It relaxes the body after a workout and allow its range-of-motion to improve. Static stretching will not cause body temperature to rise, so it is best done after exercise.

Several FEI Retail products are designed to help facilitate static stretching after a workout to help prevent sore muscles and injury. Those products include:
