Losing weight can be a daunting task. Weight Loss MisconceptionsThere are so many myths surrounding weight loss that it can be hard to tell truth from fiction. Trying to lose weight is hard enough without all the confusion of how someone should go about it correctly. To help sort fact from fiction, below we’ve listed three myths and misconceptions about weight loss:

  1. Every Calorie Consumed is the Same

Some people, if not most, believe that all calories are the same. This statement is true if you are looking at calories energy wise. Each calorie is made up of the same amount of energy. However, calories can come from different food sources which will affect each person’s weight differently. A cupcake with the same number of calories as a serving of some satisfying kale chips will not have the same outcome when it comes to weight. This is because food is processed differently within our bodies depending on what is being consumed. Junk food will not be as filling, nor will it help regulate weight hormones as much as a healthy snack will.

  1. Foods that are Labeled Dietary Food are Healthy

A lot of food that is labeled either low-fat or fat-free is most likely junk food. This is a slight that marketers for junk food use to get more people to buy their products. It is good to do your research and look at foods that are good for you before you go to the grocery store.

  1. Weight Loss happens with Willpower

It is commonly thought that if some people had enough willpower they would be able to lose weight. The misconception here is that having a positive thought process is not the sole contributor to losing weight. A person’s weight loss is contributed by multiple factors and not just willpower. Just making a choice to not just sit on the couch all day and eat chips will not completely help since obesity is a complicated disorder. There maybe some genetic factors that affect your body weight.

There are many misconceptions about weight loss. The myths we’ve listed above are just a sample of the false ideas commonly seen as fact. If you are looking for ways to lose weight, it is best to consult with your dietary nutritionist or specialist to see what ways are best for you.
