Ever have a sharp pain sensation in your wrist or forearm and wonder where it came from? Turns out you might have tendonitis which is an inflammation of the muscles and tendons of the forearm. There can be multiple causes for it but the main reason you are experiencing this pain is overuse.
Exercising and lifting weights is a great way to build muscle. However, if you are a novice or are just not focusing on proper form, lifting can also be a great way to get injured. Not gripping the weight correctly or lifting in a way that puts your joints out of alignment can cause serious injury if done repeatedly. Overuse happens from a repetitive motion or improper form. This can cause tendonitis pain in your forearm and wrists. Tendonitis pain can happen with improper weightlifting but can also happen with excessive typing. It’s a great idea to take a break and stop your muscles from being overused in any activity you do.
If you are new to lifting, you might want to consider working with a professional trainer to avoid any pain or injury. As you perform these exercises, be sure to breathe and lift the weight in a smooth and controlled motion and avoid any jerky movements that may damage your joints and muscles. If you are at a desk all day typing away, be sure to take a break occasionally. Shake off and stretch your forearms a bit so your muscles are not as stressed. Relaxing and stretching is key to preventing any inflammation of your forearm muscles and tendons.
Wrist and forearm pain are no laughing matter. It can be painful but there are ways to help get rid of it. Tendonitis can usually be treated with at home care including rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medications. If you experience severe wrist pain that does not improve, stop what you are doing and consult your doctor immediately.
