What Exercise is Best at Burning Calories?

It is a brand-new year! And you want a brand new you, a healthier you. So, what is healthier than trying to burn off some calories? You indulged a little bit in holiday festivities and now it is time to pay the price and lose those calories. From running to weightlifting, we got a list from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) about which exercises they calculated burn the most and least number of calories.

Even while some gyms remain closed, there are countless ways to get exercise, such as riding a bike with a friend or a partner. But even with so many options, it can be hard to get motivated even if you have a friend to join you. Many people get motivated by the idea of burning a ton of calories, however, burning calories is not as simple as you may think.

There are a lot of factors that determine how many calories you are burning. Personal factors such as age, sex, weight and height are all considered. With this in mind, the best way to gauge your calorie burn is a heart rate monitor. It is a good idea to use a heart rate monitor to get the most accurate reading of the amount of calories you burn during an exercise. Unfortunately, some people do not have access to heart rate monitors. For those who do not have access, we have listed the top exercises the ACE suggests burn the most calories.

According to the ACE, the best exercise to burn calories is running or jogging. With this exercise you burn around 206 calories in 30 minutes. The second-best exercise would be hiking with around 176 calories burned in a half hour. The least amount of calories you would burn is from weightlifting or doing yoga. This makes sense as these two exercises are less cardio focused and are used more for building strength or tension relief.

If you are looking for the most intense workout that burns a lot of calories, then running is the way to go. It also saves money as it does not require any equipment and it gets you outside to breathe fresh air.
