This Friday, Sept. 8th marks this year’s World Physical Therapy Day. This day recognizes the work that physical therapists do for their patients and their community. The theme of this year’s World Physical Therapy Day is physical activity and the role it plays in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Preventative exercises by physical therapists are designed to encourage healthy aging.
In honor of World Physical Therapy Day, we would like to take the time to define the role of a physical therapist and briefly describe the profession.
Physical therapists help patients work toward maximum movement and functional ability, according to the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. Their ultimate goal is to maximize their patients’ quality of life. Physical therapists work hard to rehabilitate patients by performing the following:
- Examine and evaluate patients’ needs and abilities
- Make a diagnosis and a plan
- Implement therapy intervention
- Assess the outcomes of the intervention
- Create recommendations for patients to self-manage
With the help of a physical therapist, patients can minimize or eliminate pain, rehabilitate after an injury, and avoid surgery with preventative exercises.
On behalf of the team at FEI Retail, we thank all physical therapists on this day.
